The year as a table to read and to cite: crowd level for every month, plus weather comfort and temperature from the climate normals.
| Month | Crowd level0–100, season-relative | Weather comfort0–100, profile “mild” | Avg temperature |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | 0 | 58 | 12 °C |
| February | 2 | 61 | 13 °C |
| March | 8 | 69 | 14 °C |
| April | 26 | 79 | 17 °C |
| May | 62 | 87 | 21 °C |
| June | 82 | 83 | 26 °C |
| July | 93 | 75 | 28 °C |
| August | 98 | 73 | 28 °C |
| September | 80 | 78 | 25 °C |
| October | 54 | 84 | 21 °C |
| November | 7 | 73 | 16 °C |
| December | 1 | 62 | 13 °C |
The crowd level is season-relative: 100 is the annual peak of Mallorca itself, not the busiest destination in Europe. The figures say when it is quiet here — not where it is quieter than elsewhere.
Weather comfort 0–100 from the climate normals, profile “mild” – the same profile as the recommendation above, not the selection in the calendar. A “–” means the data for that month is missing.

Mallorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands and holds 53 municipalities; it covers 3,603.7 square kilometres, or 3,622.5 counting the islets offshore.
The Serra de Tramuntana runs along the north-west, a mountain range inscribed by UNESCO. It has long been worked land: the dry-stone walls that hold its terraces date from the period of Arab rule and still stand in places, at Banyalbufar among them. From the same period, across the island, come irrigation channels, water wheels, draw wells and the growing of dates and lemons. The island's high point is the Puig Major in that range, at 1,445 metres. George Sand and Frédéric Chopin stayed at Valldemossa. An old train runs out to Sóller from the Plaza España in Palma. Near Escorca, in a wooded mountain valley, stands the Santuari de Lluc, a sanctuary and pointedly not a monastery, founded after a black Madonna was found there following the Reconquista; in the same range the Torrent de Pareis cuts its gorge near Sa Calobra.
The record reaches much further back: from roughly 1300 to 500 BC the Talayotic culture was present on the island, named for the megalithic towers several metres high that it left behind, as at the settlement of Ses Païsses near Artà; older still are the boat-shaped navetas, dated between 1700 and 1500 BC. For a time in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, Mallorca was a kingdom in its own right. Palma's cathedral was begun on the foundations of the destroyed main mosque.
Dripstone caves open along the east coast: the Coves del Drac and the Coves dels Hams near Porto Cristo, and the Coves de Artà; a cave system reaches beneath the island and can be dived with the right training. The Formentor peninsula reaches out at the northern tip, with its lighthouse. At least 1,500 plant species grow here; the Cabrera marine and land park protects part of that, feral goats live in the mountains, and the Mallorcan midwife toad was once thought extinct.
Spanish and Catalan are the official languages, Mallorquí being a variety of Catalan; the island has its own newspapers and radio stations in German.
Against Ibiza, Mallorca is about six times the size: 3,603.7 square kilometres against 571.8. Both islands hold UNESCO listings, but drawn differently: a mountain range with its terraces and dry-stone walls here, and there a single inscription from 1999 that joins nature to culture, reaching from the seagrass meadows offshore to the old town of Dalt Vila. The visitors differ as well: on Ibiza most foreign guests come from Britain and then Italy, and German is far less common there than on Mallorca, which has German-language media of its own.
